Francis became the first million pound player although Clough always maintained that he paid a pound short of a million as a matter of principle. Francis repayed Clough's faith by banging in the only goal of the European Cup Final against Malmo less than a year later. During the next years European Cup campaign he also scored a great goal against Dynamo Berlin with a low finish a foot inside the far post when Forest were in dire need of a goal after losing the first leg 0-1 at the City Ground, the Reds went on to become 1-3 winners on the night.

Trevor was a great striker who arrived at Forest bang in form. He could run past defenders effortlessly sometimes appearing as if he was running on air.

In May 1980 Trevor suffered a severe ligament injury preventing him from playing in the second European Cup Final Forest were involved in.

Tricky Trevor got into management after giving up playing and managed Sheffield Wednesday who met Frank Clark's Forest in the Premiership during the 1994-1995 season, his team lost 4-1 and afterwards Francis said 'Take away Roy and Collymore and they are ordinary.', angering a few fans.
