In the 1977-1978 season Woodcock showed the entire country that he was one of the best strikers around . He performed magically against Man United in December 1977 during a 4-0 Forest away win, grabbing a deserved hat trick. He won the PFA Young player of the year award. Tony also won the First Division Managers award for player of the year.

Woodcock won the respect of all the Forest fans with his whole hearted displays and endless runs, his goals along with Peter Withes are one of the reasons Forest went on to win the Division 1 title with four games to spare in the 1977-1978 season, the season after being promoted from Division 2

After moving to Germany Woodcock settled there and acted as a football agent and worked as a pundit on German television. Also involved in a sports event company with Viv Anderson.
