Edward 'Teddy' Sheringham

NAT: Eng

POS: Striker

Previous Clubs: Millwall

Joined Forest: 23/07/1991

Signing fee: £200.000 from Milwall

Left Forest: 28/08/1992 to Tottenham Hotspur £2.100.000

Regarded as one of the best players of the modern era with his intelligent and hard working style of play.

A fantastic bargain from Millwall that Clough took a gamble on. On the first day he was shown around the City Ground he encountered Cloughie who boomed 'Ah I see this is our new signing Edward Sheringham' Teddy replied 'Well yes I am, but I'd rather you called me Teddy. The only person who calls me Edward is my Mum and that's only when she's mad at me.' Clough though for a second or two before replying 'Oh that's right is it? Well, welcome to Nottingham Forest Edward.' Teddy just smiled.

After a few games Clough commented of Sheringham 'He was the slowest player on the staff, probably because of all the nightclubs he told me he didn't visit.'

Teddy unfortunately only spent one season Trentside, scoring 23 goals, he left to everyone's dismay after only three games of the 1992-1993 season.

All those fans who witnessed him in the 1991-1992 season will never forget seeing a legend in the making as he went on to become a Manchester United star.
