Peter Withe NAT: POS: Striker Previous Clubs: Joined Forest: 1976 Signing fee: £42.000 Left Forest: 04/08/1978 sold to Newcastle Withe was the Reds number 9 at a time when the magic was flowing freely across the City Ground. He memorably scored all four goals with a demolition over Ipswich in the 77-78 Division 1 winning side.
That same season he was on fire in front of goal and between him and Tony Woodcock the defences of the first division were terrified of the dangers that the Forest front two displayed. In the Second Division campaign of 1976-1977 Withe scored 16 goals as the Reds finished third and got promotion back to the top flight. That same season he or strike partner Tony Woodcock scored in nine of ten consecutive matches creating one of Forests' most lethal attack partnerships In the 77-78 season Withe scored 19 goals as Forest won the Division One title at the first time of asking and the number nine for the Reds became an all time Forest great Withe played for Forest 99 times in those two fantastic years. After retiring he became national coach of Thailand and then technical director of Indonesia's national side from 2004 to January 2007. return to previous page |
