Nigel Howard Clough NAT: England POS: Attack Midfield Previous Clubs: Joined Forest: 1984 and 1996 Signing fee: 1984: from trainee, 1996: loan from Man City Left Forest: 10/07/1993, £2,300,000 to Liverpool, 1997 return to Man City from loan Nigel was the son of the manager Brian Clough and his team mates quickly realised that he would recieve no special treatment from the gaffer for this priviledge. Nigel signed as an amateur in 1985 and amazingly for the first season he still turned out for his brother Simon's sunday league side Ac Hunters. He finished top scorer in six out of seven seasons between 1985 and 1991 and again in 1993 when Forest were relegated, an amazing feat considering he played in defence for some of that final season. His first touch and distribution were exceptional and although he lacked in pace he made up for it with his football brain. When he left Forest he was ravaged by injuries and he was never the same player once leaving the City Ground. He took over as manager of Burton Albion in 1998 and led the club to the Unibond Premier League title after ten years at the club before being appointed manager of Derby County in January 2009 P/FL: 311, 101g return to previous page |
