![]() Martin Hugh Michael O Neill NAT: Ireland POS: Right Wing Midfield Previous Clubs: Joined Forest: 1971 Signing fee: Left Forest: 1980 Already at Forest when Clough arrived at the club, O Neill only became the player we know today under Clough and Taylor's management skills. Martin became an elusive and powerful right sided midfielder who added real variety to the Forest sides of the late seventies He played an important role in the 1979 European Cup though he sadly missed out on the final after injury. He scored in the quarters against Grasshoppers in the 2nd leg grabbing the wqualiser to make it 1-1 which made the Red's 5-2 aggregate winners. Twelve months later he got his chance to step out in a European Cup Final for himself. Since retiring from football O Neill has become a very succesful manager alongside John Robertson, together they have managed Grantham Town, Wycombe Wanderers, Leicester City, Celtic and now Aston Villa who they guided into European football return to previous page |
