![]() Larry Valentine Lloyd NAT: POS: Central Defender Previous Clubs: Coventry, Liverpool Joined Forest: 1976 Signing fee: Loan for 1 month then £60.000 from Coventry Left Forest: 1980 Lloyd had won a championship and a UEFA Cup with Liverpool in 1973, when Clough and Taylor brought Lloyd to Forest in 1978 many had written him off. He was a few months shy of his 30th birthday and Lloyd claims that from day one after arriving at the club he knew something special was happening. With Kenny Burns beside him they became a tower of strength and the rock between Forest winning or losing games. Obviously they won more than they lost as the winning mentality became a habit and the Red's went unbeaten for 42 League games winning the First division along the way. Lloyd later went on to commentate on Forest for Century Radio alongside a young Darren Fletcher and his honest comments regarding the poor management skills of David Platt led to his sacking when Platt refused to participate with Century so long as Larry worked there. Both Lloyd and Forest fans have never forgiven Platt for this. Lloyd is a true Forest legend who took Nottingham to his heart, becoming a local landlord before emigrating to Spain. return to previous page |
