Ian was a classy defender showing composure at the heart of defence. An honest and committed player, strong in the tackle and effective in the air. Breckin worked well alonsgside Wes Morgan and Kelvin Wilson

Throughout the 2007-2008 season Breckin was the club captain

Breckin had a mixed time at Forest in and out of the squad under Calderwood's management. When Calderwood left the club Billy Davies immediately restored Breckin to the starting line up and removed him from the transfer list.

His experience helped the younger players around him and he was instrumental in keeping the Red's from relegation.

He was released in the Summer of 2009.
