A talented Scotland international who liked to work in front of the back four before he was encouraged to play a more attacking role under the leadership of Paul Hart, who had watched him grow up from the youth system.

A new side to his game then emerged as he scored more goals and created a bag full of chances for others. He was named the player of the season in 2001-2002.

Gareth got the first of his caps for Scotland in 2002.

After leaving Forest Gareth signed for Leicester City in 2004, he then moved to Watford in 2007 and then after suffering with injuries during a spell at Watford he moved to the USA in May 2009 to try and revive his career.
