Des is one of the greatest centre backs for Forest over the last fifty years. He hardly let the side down the only times any one can really recall are those two freakish own goals against Spurs in the FA Cup Final and Sheffield United in the play offs of 2003

He had great determination and was the captain more often than not. A class defender with his decisive tackling, timely interceptions and great ability to read the game making him a forbidable opponent. But on the break he was as fast as a olympic sprinter

Des also inspired the number one hit single Please Don't Go by Forest fans KWS, although he still left much to the heartbreak of the City Ground.

He returned some ten years later at the veteran age of 37 to inspire Forest to a Championship play off campaign giving Michael Dawson some great advice in the back four as once again the chants of 'You'll never beat Des Walker' rang out from the A Block and the Trent End one last time. He then stayed with the Red's as defence coach until Gary Megson took over as manager prompting his leaving the City Ground after 395 appearances for the Reds
