![]() Colin Calderwood 20/01/1965 NAT: Scotland Calderwood joined Forest from Northampton Town in 2006 after leading them to two straight promotions He was given time to settle at the City Ground where he installed stability and payed particular attention to the younger players at the club giving many of the stars we know today their big chance to stake their claims at the club. At the City Ground he liked his team to play a 4-3-3 formation whilst away he would prefer a 4-5-1 or 4-4-2 when chasing a goal. It wasn't long before his defensive tactics started to get the crowd down though as many supporters felt his sides weren't playing 'The Forest way'. It sometimes seemed that the sides which were full of attacking intent were being deliberately held back in their quest to flex their muscles. Forest would constantly produce a host of opportunities after spells of fluid well crafted football but often fail to score. The City Ground faithful grew increasingly frustrated at the League One football they were watching and it was a feeling at those times that the Reds didn't belong or deserve to be in the league that they were. Calderwood, however made some fantastic signings and offered a lot of youth players contracts during his time at Forest including Chris Cohen, Lewis Mcgugan, James Perch and Nathan Tyson After nearly getting Forest promoted in the 2006-2007 campaign via the play offs it was a nightmare game against Yeovil that ended the season unhappily. But Calderwood's passion for the Reds was never in doubt during one game at Southend in the 2007-2008 season he rolled about on the touchline clutching his knee after celebrating a equaliser too wildly. The next season though after a terrible start the Reds suddenly popped up out of nowhere after winning 6 out of their last seven games finishing second in the League after a final day of crazy fortunate for Forest results. One banner hanging over the main stand simply said it all as the Forest fans invaded the pitch to celebrate automatic promotion it read 'He does know what he's doing' Unfortunately Colin struggled to adapt to life in the Championship and he parted company with the club in January 2009 and soon after was appointed assistant manager to Chris Hughton at Newcastle United where they led United back to the Premier League at the first attempt return to previous page |
