Brian Howard Clough

On Monday September the 20th 2004 some eleven years after Brian Clough had left the City Ground, the great man died of stomach cancer aged 69. The obituaries were written and every major news programme carried the image of Clough and his legendary status was recognised far beyond football status.

At Pride Park and the City Ground the flowers began to decorate the stadia alongside football shirts of almost every club from this country. Forest were playing West Ham in a League Cup game a few days after Brian's death and the City Ground echoed with chants of yesteryear and the exterior of the stadium was decorated by scarves, shirts and flowers

"When I'm gone I want to be remembered as somebody who contributed good things to that great English game of ours."
